SARA SARA aimed at constructing sustainable, cost-effective, high energy performance, public-access eco-buildings that are immediately replicable on a large scale in many locations. The eco-buildings will be equipped with advanced sustainable energy technologies integrated by an innovative architectural approach and combining monitoring and building management systems (BMS). SARA involved demonstrating seven highly sustainable and replicable public-access buildings in six EC Member States (Austria, France, Italy, Slovenia, Spain and the UK) and one New Independent State (Uzbekistan). A major German research centre also participated. There were a total of 15 members in the project. The key aspects of the project were public-access, innovative yet cost-effective and replicable results, consideration of end users and an interdisciplinary team working on various RTD activities. These aspects, applied across various climatic regions, will produce large-scale social, urban and environmental benefits. The project therefore contributed to the future development of European energy policy and legislation and will help to accelerate the market penetration of sustainable innovative technologies. |
