ECO-CULTURE

For all three buildings, the design has been finalised in the second year of the project with exception of some details concerning BEMS and monitoring. Overall the design work has been completed with a very satisfactory result, thus the planned energy objectives are believed to be reached.

Also in the second year of the project construction was started in all three buildings. The construction work is (almost) within the time schedule. All buildings have finalised the main load bearing construction work and have started on the installation of HVAC.
In the third year of the project the constructions of the three buildings have been ongoing according to the design. The construction has been satisfactory and the planned energy objectives are believed to be reached.

Opening of the buildings

The opening of the three buildings marked the ending of the construction period. In all three buildings the openings were attended by a large number of persons.

• The opening of the Amsterdam Library was held July 7, 2007 (07-07-07)
• The opening of the Royal Playhouse in Copenhagen was held on February 16, 2008
• The opening of the Oslo Opera House was held April 12, 2008

Democratic design

The buildings have each become integrated in the cultural life of the cities in which they are erected. Each show that democratic architecture (buildings where people feel welcome) and eco-friendly design can go together with high-performance and usability for the building owner. A large number of visitors come to the building each year. A cautious estimate shows that at least 3-4 million persons visit the buildings each year. Of these, the Library has over 2 million users a year, while the Opera has over 200.000 persons visiting shows. The corresponding number for the Playhouse is well over 100.000.

This is a very important result and shows the huge success of the ECO-Culture project.
